States by Transfer-Loss Cascades in O5+ Collisions with He and H2 Targets

چکیده
Single differential cross-sections for transfer-loss (TL) leading to the production of O5+(1s2s 3S)nl 4L states were computed for 0.2-1.2 MeV/u collisions of O5+(1s22s) ions with He and H2 targets. At these collision energies, 1s loss is significant and electron transfer to n = 3− 4 levels is dominant. Furthermore, due to spin conservation, quartet states can only be populated by TL. Within the independent particle model (IPM), the probability of 1s electron loss from O5+(1s22s) projectiles was calculated using the semi-classical approach, while the probability for electron transfer to the O5+(1s2s 3S)nl 4L states (n ≥ 2) was computed using the continuum distorted wave (CDW) approximation. The majority of states with n > 2 can be assumed to have sufficient time to eventually decay with an almost 100% probability to the long-living metastable 1s2s2p 4P level via a much faster sequence of electric dipole transitions, thus establishing an upper limit to such cascade contributions. The inclusion of this cascade feeding is found to lead to a strong enhancement in the production of the 1s2s2p 4P states, particularly for collisions with the H2 target, thus reducing dramatically the existing two-order of magnitude discrepancy between older TL calculations (for n = 2 only) and existing zero-degree Auger projectile electron spectroscopy measurements.

متن کاملAlignment-Dependent Atomic Model for Electron Transfer in Ion-Molecule Collisions
The alignment-dependent atomic model for treating electron transfer processes in ion-molecule collisions [Shingal and Lin, Phys. Rev. 1989, A40, 1302] is reviewed. This model has been applied to collisions between H and He with H2, and recently also to collisions between He and Ar ions with H2, where alignment effect is being explored experimentally.
متن کاملCollisions of low-energy antiprotons and protons with atoms and molecules
Antiproton (p̄) collisions have evolved to a powerful tool for the testing of dynamic electron correlations in atoms and molecules. While advances in the understanding of p̄ collisions with the simplest oneand two-electron atoms, H and He, have been achieved experiment and theory did not agree for low-energy p̄ + He collisions (< 40 keV), stimulating a vivid theoretical activity. On the other hand...
متن کاملDirect excitations of He+ and Li++ ions by collisions with protons or antiprotons
The impact parameter formalism of the single-center close-coupling, first-, and second-order Born approximations have been applied to investigate direct excitations of Helium He+(2s) and Lithium Li++(2s) ions by colliding with protons or antiprotons. The total 3s, 3p, and 3d scaled excitation cross sections are calculated in the scaled impact energy region (2 to 1000 keV). The present work aims...
متن کاملVibration-vibration and vibration-translation energy transfer in H2-H2 collisions: a critical test of experiment with full-dimensional quantum dynamics.
Quantum scattering calculations of vibration-vibration (VV) and vibration-translation (VT) energy transfer for non-reactive H2-H2 collisions on a full-dimensional potential energy surface are reported for energies ranging from the ultracold to the thermal regime. The efficiency of VV and VT transfer is known to strongly correlate with the energy gap between the initial and final states. In H2(v...
